Concrete Pool Deck Repair, Concrete Driveway Repair, Concrete Staining and Concrete Refinishing - by MODE CONCRETE in Kelowna BC

This is a modern contemporary home, located in West Kelowna. Mode Concrete was asked to come onsite & fix all the cracks on this concrete architectural wall. Read on to get the full story.

Properly maintaining, sealing, repairing, and protecting your concrete will increase the longevity of your concrete and resale value of your home. Many times when new or existing concrete cracks or needs a repair, our clients are discouraged because they aren't aware of the many options available. They usually assume the worst, and think that replacing the concrete is the best option. Concrete naturally shifts, moves and cracks with environmental changes and with age. Easily repaired, patched, or filled, these cracks are usually only cosmetic and not structural or unsafe (but every project is different).

We can help talk you through all the options available to you depending on the state of the concrete. We can stain the concrete, disguise cracks and patch any deteriorated areas. There are so many options available, we can walk you through the entire process. We always stay within the original estimated price and on schedule (weather permitting... we live in the mountains afterall!).

For this client (pictured above) we were able to color match the concrete perfectly and fill all the cracks / chips.  We then applied a matte sealer on the walls, to make sure there was a protective barrier on the concrete before the homeowners moved in.

MODE CONCRETE specializes in high end decorative concrete applications, concrete sealing, concrete restoration and concrete crack repairs.  We have been trusted by many people in the Okanagan for their custom concrete needs over the years.  We only use high quality products and whether you have a concrete repair, or you want your aged concrete refinished and rejuvenated, MODE CONCRETE can help.

We service the Okanagan and always make sure our customers love us, and refer us to their friends. If  you want to hire the best artisan concrete contractor, contact MODE CONCRETE for a new level of service and customer satisfaction. Owners Gareth Tyrrell and Cindy Manchur work directly with all of our clients.

Wanna get the Down Low on Concrete Overlays? Our client talks about why they chose a concrete overlay by Mode Concrete

Feedback like this, is why we love what we do.  Our ultimate goal at Mode Concrete is to make sure our clients have a stress-less and even enjoyable process, that is always on schedule and on budget. We use nothing but the best artisans and highest quality products available.

"I hired Mode Concrete to install a concrete overlay in a 4000 sq ft renovation home in Kettle Valley. When deciding what to do for flooring we were inundated with all of the flooring options, I was searching for something unique and outside of what would be considered traditional, I've had carpet, vinyl, hardwood, ceramic tile, etc, etc. I came across Mode via their website and upon the initial meeting to review the installation requirements I was very impressed. Mode Concrete delivered on time, on budget, and exceeded my expectations. The floors are very unique, every room has its own bit of character, a swirl, a beauty mark and unlike hardwoods (or some tiles) that are popular, no-one will ever have the same floors, not even close. Contrary to what I expected and what most people may believe, the floors are surprising warm as they seem to retain more heat than any floor I've had in the past. No more worries about the kids ruining the hardwood with a rough toy or a dragged chair. I am very happy with every aspect of the decision, not only to do the concrete but to hire Mode Concrete."

Our client took this photo of their concrete overlay, completed by MODE CONCRETE in Kelowna BC.

Concrete Bar Countertops - located downtown Kelowna on Bernard Avenue - created by MODE CONCRETE

We were recently hired by Memphis Blues BBQ Restaurant, to help create a concrete bar counter top that is facing their outdoor patio on Bernard Ave.  A great way to spend a few hours in Kelowna... head downtown, find a patio that lets you enjoy some sunshine, have a drink, have some yummy eats and people watch (all of which takes place right next to the beach!).

Concrete Acid Stain Color Chart - created by MODE CONCRETE in the Okanagan, BC, Canada

Acid stains can be applied to any horizontal or vertical concrete surface.  It's a great way to punch up brand new or boring old concrete, camouflage and disguise cracks or repairs, and a wonderful way to add a designer touch. Acid stain consists of a acid and water solution mixed with metallic salts that can be applied in a wide array of colors. The effect is a natural looking color pattern with mottled shades of the same hue, marbling occurs and each stained piece of concrete is a piece of art.  The art of concrete staining is only as good as the artisan. This is a highly technical and specialized process, we advise that you receive test or sample areas before deciding colors, finishes or assessing the skill of the contractor.  Due to the high level of unpredictability that concrete naturally exhibits, concrete staining is a tricky project even for the most ambitious DIY'er.  Each concrete surface will stain uniquely according to variations in surface density, texture, porosity, and composition.

MODE CONCRETE can also apply a wide range of concrete sealers... simply alone, or on top of any concrete stain.  Concrete surfaces like walls, driveways, patios, sidewalks, floors, pool decks, garage floors all require sealers to protect them from damage, wear/tear and the natural environmental factors the surface is exposed to.  By properly maintaining and protecting your concrete, you will add years of life to your concrete surface.

We have many great dyes and pigment options available.  Concrete staining and sealing is great for driveways, patios, concrete floors (garage, basement), concrete slabs or any concrete surface.  MODE CONCRETE provides all the services we discuss in this blog.  If you'd like anymore information please contact us.  We service Kelowna & area, in BC Canada.

Take Terrazzo Concrete a Step Further by adding Glass GLOW ROCKS to any Concrete Surface

Glow in the dark concrete is probably the coolest thing we've ever seen.  Glass glow rocks have a life of at least 20 years and will keep on lighting up the night for years.  You pick the color and watch as they change and start glowing when the sun goes down.  Creating a starry night on your concrete surface by mixing up the glow rock glass, with recycled colored glass or simply use the glow rocks alone.  Totally customized to your project, we can work with you to create a conversation piece and something you'll be proud of for years.

Glow Rock Glass Additive Details:
  • Glow Rocks can be used in concrete countertops, floors, concrete tiles, pool decks, concrete slabs or patios, concrete fireplaces, sidewalks, steps, and driveways.
  • Photoluminescent materials (commonly called "glow-in-the-dark") has the ability to absorb light (sunlight, fluorescent, incandescent, etc) and then to emit light. When ambient darkness occurs, it becomes highly visible, lasting at least 8 hours, and up to 20 hours. Upon removal of the light source, the stored light is gradually released, the strongest glow is produced during the first 30 minutes of darkness, the most critical period following a power failure or other emergency. Then it fades over a period of time, when there is light again, it stores energy again.
  • The glowing effect created is both beautiful, and a safety element at night.
  • Glow Rocks and Sands have an expected lifespan of twenty years.
  • Made of glass and ceramic elements.
  • Non-toxic, Non-radioactive. Photoluminescent materials contain no phosphorus or lead, or any other hazardous element or chemical. The term phosphorence is sometimes used to describe luminescence, but these photoluminescent materials contain no phosphorus.
  • How it works: The basic principle of photoluminescence is simple: electrons orbiting atoms or molecules absorb energy through collision with photons during excitation. They then emit this excess energy as photons of (usually visible) light at a later time.
  • The more light the glow rock is exposed to, the more it'll light up when the lights go down.
Please contact Gareth at Mode Concrete for additional details on how we can incorporate glass glow rock into your upcoming concrete projects.
