Ultra Cool and Modern Concrete Kitchen Countertops - made locally in the Okanagan by Mode Concrete

Mode Concrete loves to use bold colors to punctuate raw concrete.  We thought this bright oriental orange would be a lovely contrast against the grey bare concrete. Color blocking is a great way to punch up architectural angles or just add some personality to raw concrete elements.  We also overextended the surface of the countertop, added a waterfall edge and voila... we were able to create this breakfast bar and make some extra livable space in this kitchen.  

This modern, double farm-style, apron concrete sink is massive in size and has a built-in draining board.  Rustic, durable, modern and superb functionality.  All of our concrete is top quality and built to last for years!  

We also created the concrete backsplash out of long thin concrete tiles.  We hand stained and painted these long tiles and then applied to wall (application is similar to tile). We wanted to combine the elements of both concrete and wood, and imprinted the long concrete tiles with wood grain.  The concrete surface that goes from the countertop up to the cupboards is incredibly durable, waterproof and all of our treated concrete surfaces are easy to keep clean and germ free.

Waterfall counters (also known as risers) have been THE trend in kitchens all over the world lately, both for their stylistic appeal and long-term durability when compared to other materials. When extended to the floor this countertop instantly looks more modern, clean and high-end.  We love the look of this waterfall edge and created a plank form looking waterfall edge to match the backsplash and countertop elements.

Modern Bathroom with Black Stained Concrete Floor easily Contrasts a Rustic Wooden Vanity and White Porcelain

This home is a cutting edge design from floor to ceiling, gorgeous wood tones fill the home with light and warmth, especially since everything in the home is reflecting off the ultra chic and cool black stained concrete floor. 

Here is a stunning modern bathroom with a black concrete floor that contrasts beautifully against rustic wooden vanity and white porcelain. We created this custom black stained concrete floor, to exactly match up with samples and colors requested by the client, they had a great vision when designing this powder room.  

This contemporary bathroom design has a great balance between natural warm materials and modern elements.  If you love their style and want to recreate this look, the main elements are: a naturally beautiful rough cut wooden slab used as a vanity, a black concrete floor, architectural statement white porcelain vessel sink and toilet, and stainless elements (plumbing and tap).  

Why is concrete a great option for a bathroom or any wet area? There are a number of challenges that face a bathroom floor or wet areas on a daily basis, including water concerns, humidity changes, and staining agents which spill and splatter. With concrete, you get a floor or counter-top that is uniquely suited to your design scheme and the concrete itself is nearly indestructible, while the stains and waxes will develop a rich complex patina as it wears and is exposed to environmental factors. Even though your concrete will achieve character and marks as it ages, nothing will affect the strength of the concrete floor itself.  If you'd like to naturally finish your concrete surface but want a bit of sheen... waxes, stains and sealers make sure all damages are absorbed by making the floor a bit softer if anything should come into contact with the concrete.  Concrete is not for the perfectionist, people often say concrete is very similar to leather or vintage jeans, they get better with age.  One thing we love doing is checking out architecture in a city and noticing the concrete objects and buildings that look better than they day they were created and poured. Concrete is one of those rare materials that looks better the older it is. Concrete naturally develops character that tells a story about its life.

Concrete Floor Maintenance, Care and Cleaning: Concrete is fairly simple to take care of. You can dry or wet mop, sweep, or vacuum to remove small debris on a weekly basis. Use neutral, natural cleaners to ensure nothing strips the sealers and waxes.  Then once every one or two years you will have to apply a moisture barrier sealer and waxes.

Since concrete flooring is very hard, and an unforgiving flooring material with highly unpredictable results - make sure you hire an experience concrete contractor and see samples before deciding if concrete is for you.  Lots of options are available call your local concrete flooring expert for all the options available to you.

How do you decide which contractor to hire?

This is such a great concern for all home and business owners.  How can you be sure you are getting what you pay for and will be happy with the end results?  Here are some tips on how to weed out the good contractors from the good salesmen.

Tips on choosing a contractor

• How do you know what their quality of work is, before hiring them? No matter how large or small project is, if you want a high quality outcome make sure your contractor is constantly educating themselves. Your contractor should use the most current techniques and best quality products available on the market.  The level of experience and product knowledge in your contractor is crucial in determining the life and quality of the workmanship you pay for. 
• How to decide which contractor is best for me? We suggest meeting with potential contractors and interviewing them, test out their product knowledgeable, experience, see their portfolio, check reviews, referrals and talk to your friends about local experiences.  After a few meetings, you should be able to differentiate between the fly-by-night jack-of-all-trades, and the reputable quality contractor that brings the most knowledge and experience to your project.  
• Why are all the estimates different and how do I know which one to choose? You usually get what you pay for, and getting the best deal or accepting the cheapest estimate, will probably not get you the best results or greatest longevity of the product. Modfire's Bonfire, a midcentury modern fire unit... 7 feet tall and full of gorgeous!

We don’t know if bigger is better, but it’s definitely hotter. The Urban Bonfire is Modfire's award-winning fireplace design in extra-large. At 7’ tall, this unit creates a real presence in your outdoor space, providing a place for large gatherings and a focal point on your deck or patio..

The Urban Bonfire can be configured to burn propane, ethanol or natural gas. It works well in both commercial and residential installations.

Product Details:

The Bonfire in propane or natural gas has a modern star burner mounted to its firebowl to provide a perfectly dispersed flame. Covering the propane burner with either lava rock or fire glass is a great way to disperse the flame and add a customized touch (not included).

A 10' length of flex-hose makes it easy to attach to your propane tank (the propane model uses a standard 20lb propane tank like the one used for most residential gas grills). It is also possible to order a longer hose to store your tank further away. The natural gas model comes with stubbed out pipe that should be connected to your natural gas line by a licensed contractor in your area.

This ethanol model is powered by an Eco-smart burner that uses clean-burning ethanol. It puts out a toasty 18,600 BTUs and is safe for indoor or outdoor use. The burner holds about 2 gallons of fuel and burns for apx 8 hours without refilling.

The Bonfire is manufactured from 14 gauge rolled steel. They are hand-rolled into a sleek cone designed to both direct the heat and provide a beautiful modern centerpiece for your outdoor space. Each one is then finished in the Modfire studio by one of their steel artisans. Seams are welded and smoothed, the distinctive openings are hand-formed, and the finish is applied.

Each Bonfire is unique and will have slight variations in size and finishing. In general, they measure 32" in diameter at the base, 10" at the top and stand 83". Average weight is about 120 lbs.

This model comes in Natural Steel or any of our color finishes: Ultra-lounge White, Avocado, Azure, Maraschino, or Tangerine. Each one includes several layers of high-temperature paint plus a thousand degree clear coat to protect the steel and provide a vibrant finish.

• DETAILS OF COMPLIMENTARY 3D DESIGN:
• If you would like MODE CONCRETE to create a 3D rendering of your dream outdoor kitchen, you will be charged for the design(s) before we assign the design team to your project.  
• The cost of the design will depend on how many designs you would like to see, how many design hours are required and how many modifications are required to your 3D image.
• Once all details are finalized and you decide you are happy with the design, we will give you a final estimate for the outdoor kitchen.  
• When you decide everything is 100% exactly how you want it and you approve everything, we then can book your outdoor kitchen into our building schedule and order all building supplies and accessories required.
• All design fees and design hours will be applied as a discount towards your kitchen, when you make your booking.
